The Chicks ♥ our friends from the Tennessean who are helping us sort in the warehouse for the entire month of October. We are heading into the Christmas Giveaway stretch and we need all the help we can get.

Jeff Rayvid, Ryan Bush and Tara Quarrick help keep the Chicks on track.

We start getting ready for the Christmas Giveaway in June. And, over time, a lot of stuff piles up that has to be sorted and inventoried before we can give it away to our nonprofit partners. By late summer, the warehouse starts looking like some sort of perverse Santa’s Workshop. Everything is out of season. Right now, we have rolls upon rolls of Christmas wrapping paper out. We have ornaments, decorations and Christmas sweaters lined up. You know who really loves the Christmas sweaters? Our friends at the Senior Centers we serve. Birdhouses and Christmas sweaters. They can’t get enough of them.

Sometimes this out-of-season sorting befuddles our volunteers. Halloween costumes in May. Thanksgiving pilgrims in September. Christmas decorations in October. But that’s the only way we can keep up. Come the Christmas Giveaway, all we have to do is pull out the pre-sorted boxes and stack them in piles for our nonprofit partners to pick up. Now, we don’t just give them frivolous fun stuff. They also get socks, underwear, stocking caps, personal hygiene products and other necessaries. But what would Christmas be without a jolly elf, a plethora of tree ornaments and a special plate for Santa’s cookies?

So, thanks Jeff, Ryan and Tara for helping to keep the Chicks on track. We’ll put in a good word with Santa for you.
