The Big Payback
So every May, the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee hosts The Big Payback. It’s a 24-hour online giving opportunity for nonprofits in Middle Tennessee. The foundation hosted a training session yesterday and I have to say I was pretty darn impressed both with myself for making it through a snowstorm to get there and with the session, which was not boring.
I have attended approximately 3,487 training sessions in my working life and 99 percent of them do not observe this simple rule: The average attention span lasts 45 minutes. After that, the smart phones come out. Let the games begin.
This session did observe that simple rule. Overall, it was three hours long but each breakout session lasted 25 minutes with a 10-minute break in between. We learned about using social media, e-mail marketing, hosting events the day of the Payback, clever campaigns and pushing for prizes.
Prizes! I forgot to say there are prizes during the event. I’m not sure what they are or how to get them but I love prizes.
So just know that between now and May 3, the Millennial and I will be poking at you to remember to donate to CRC during The Big Payback. And…AND…we’ll have prizes for you. Yes, it pays to work in a warehouse. We have lots of shiny things.
