Help for the homeless
Open Table Nashville serves the homeless. Many people think it involves only food, but Open Table is much broader than that. It’s mission is, I think, perfectly written:
“We are a non-profit, interfaith community that disrupts cycles of poverty, journeys with the marginalized and provides education about issues of homelessness.”
Especially the “journeys with the marginalized” part. Open Table is a great example of a nonprofit agency that is a perfect fit for CRC. They need household items to give their clients entering permanent housing. We have all that. Today, they picked up pillows, blankets, bath items, lamps, rugs and more for their “Welcome Home” program. They also work with How’s Nashville, a community-wide effort to house the chronically homeless. We do, too. And they run emergency warming centers in the winter. We provide gloves and hats to some of those centers.
At the end of the day, it is taking a village to tackle the problem of homelessness in Nashville. But we are tackling it from various directions. One pillow at a time.
